It has occurred to me that one way to avoid blogger’s block is to read and respond to the latest nonsense that the left-wing bloggers and columnists have come out with. Whatever else one might say about them, I have to acknowledge that as a source of inspiration they are unparalleled.
In particular, I have high hopes for John Pagani as a plentiful source of low-hanging fruit. In the latest post on his Stuff blog John expresses his disgust at National’s decision not to seriously contest the Epsom electorate. He asserts that they are treating the voters like chumps. The overall quality of his thinking is summed up, however, when he comments that, “in Epsom, this is probably mostly fair”.
Epsom is a wealthy electorate made up of people who have successful careers, create jobs and pay a hugely disproportionate amount of tax. John, upset that they are insufficiently appreciative of the left’s enthusiastic confiscation of their wealth, labels them ‘chumps’.
All the while, he cheerfully ignores the fact that the parties on the left are engaging in precisely the same behaviour. The Greens are endorsing Labour’s candidate for Ohariu. I don’t recall Labour ever having put up a strong candidate against Jim Anderton. I could relate to John not liking these deals, and evenhandedly criticising all parties who engage in it. Then, I would simply accuse him of being unrealistic. As it is, he is a hypocrite.
